MNN SUPPORT-A-UNIT INITIATIVE
Military News Network (MNN) is in a unique position to support the troops because of the 23,000 plus members of MNN's Facebook Fan Page. Many  of these members have expressed an interest in helping to support the troops. Our first step in this initiative is to identify deployed US military units that have specific needs that can be addressed by private citizens, organizations and businesses in the United States. After military units in need have been identified, MNN will post this information so that concerned Americans can work to meet these needs. Please contact us if you know of a unit that has a specific need. Examples of needs include care packages, eye protection, cold weather gear, sun block, phone cards, magazines, etc.

Please provide the following information:

Name of unit
Location of unit
Short description about the unit
Items that are needed
Contact information of person recommending unit
Contact information of unit
Mailing address of unit
Additional information such as mailing restrictions, guidelines, etc.

(Some information will be safeguarded for security purposes.)

Freedom Cookies

"We send home-baked cookies to our troops at war. We like to say that we are sending the taste and comfort of home in the shape of a cookie."
Operation Hooah
"Thousands of brave soldiers are deployed to Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in pretty rugged and primitive conditions. Some in remote outposts live in dugouts or hand built fort-like structures of timber and rock/mud sandbags. In the WINTER, it is very cold and wet, and in SUMMER it is beastly hot, dusty and dry over there in Afghanistan. Soldiers deployed to outposts and firebases are often dirty, hungry, bored, lonely, very cold, or miserably hot, and much of the time, in harm's way. Many do not have any laundry facilities; the only water is what the Chinooks can deliver, so some only get a shower once a month. Often, sanitary conditions are quite dispiriting. Though the platoon FOBs and outposts are resupplied by helicopter it is no small task to keep them completely supplied and able to function and keep morale high when their surroundings are unsanitary, crude, hostile... and... WAY in the HECK out in the wilderness so far away from comfort, safety, and loved ones!

Many are often in need of basic things to help them keep warm and clean. They can use, and will appreciate ANY hygiene items or treats you can send them."  www.operationhooah.com
USO - United Service Organizations
The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress - and enduring style of USO delivery - is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates more than 130 centers worldwide, including ten mobile canteens located in the continental United States and overseas. Overseas centers are located in Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Korea, Afghanistan, Guam, and Kuwait. Service members and their families visit USO centers more than 5.3 million times each year. The USO is the way the American public supports the troops. Our Troops Need Your Help. Show them that America still cares. Give what you can today.
