Whiteman AFB Airman's Attic restocked with gently-used items by Pioneer Services

4/9/2009

With many families struggling to make ends meet during these turbulent times, the associates at Pioneer Services recently undertook an effort to assist military families, and protect the environment, by collecting and donating gently-used items to the Airman's Attic, an on-base thrift store at Whiteman Air Force Base that provides items to in-need military families at no cost.

What started out as environmental initiative from the company's Green Team to recycle older or unused household items, turned into a re-gifting effort of sorts to help military families. Over the past several weeks, associates at Pioneer Services have challenged one another to bring in items that they might no longer need in an effort to help struggling military families. On April 2, associates loaded up several vehicles with clothes, toys, appliances, and furniture and caravanned to Whiteman AFB. The donations filled two entire rooms at the thrift store and participating Pioneer Services' associates were given a tour of the facility by appreciative staff.

"Assisting military families that rely on the Whiteman AFB thrift store was a great experience and terrific opportunity for our associates to give back to those that have given so much for our country," said Karen Von Der Bruegge, chief marketing officer for Pioneer Services. "We hope that the items donated by our associates will help service members affected by the current economic conditions." In fact, as the trucks were being unloaded, several appliances were already being selected by military families.
