The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships, the Haruna-class helicopter destroyer HS Hiei and the Atogo-class guided-missile destroyer JS Ashigara, and the U.S. Navy ships, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur and the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Crommelin, are underway in formation during Annual Exercise. Ships from the U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force are participating in the bilateral exercise designed to enhance the capabilities of both naval forces.
